The Garden of Earthly Delights, After El Bosco, Oil on Canvas 60''x 48''
Vivid colors, bold lines and strong narratives characterize the engaging paintings of artist Juan Lopezdabdoub. His intriguing works, rife with symbolic imagery, philosophical introspection and striking thematic contrasts encourage discourse among viewers. Although largely allegorical, Lopezdabdoub’s paintings employ the visual signifiers of mythology to call forth decidedly contemporary issues. His paintings are deep-rooted in the concerns of modern society, seeking to engage the viewer in meaningful discussions with the purpose of promoting a better understanding of the human condition. By juxtaposing seemingly disparate images, the artist masterfully conjures a sense of dramatic tension: even though elements may be incompatible they are duly joined in a beautiful aesthetic balance. Lopezdabdoub hopes to underscore the divisive worldwide conditions that spark contention but inevitably unite us all. His imagery, both powerful and ambiguous, further emphasizes the fact that people are inherently linked no matter what their politics, color or creed. Similarly, the artist questions the notion of place, as the issues facing one global society will undoubtedly plague another.
Born in war-torn El Salvador, Juan Lopezdabdoub immigrated to Canada in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors Degree from the University of Manitoba. Today, the artist lives and works in Winnipeg, where he continues to examine contemporary society, particularly the effects of conflict and the abuse of power, in his dynamic body of paintings. www.juanlopezdabdoub.com www.Art-Mine.com/ArtistPage/Juan_Lopezdabdoub.aspx
